GL-31

I managed to snag this MIJ GL-31 for free off my local Craigslist last summer. She's an absolute beauty, plays and sounds just great. In fact I'm currently trying to sell my Seagull acoustic as I think the Degas plays and sounds just as good as the Seagull (albeit fairly differently), but I just don't play acoustic enough to justify keeping two. The hardcase that came with the GL-31 is great too, it doesn't come across well in the photos but the exterior of it is actually a very nicely faded denim.
My cat likes to get in every single picture that gets taken (and this was taken when I first got the guitar, so she was definitely interested in sniffing it out, I don't normally let her walk on my guitars).
And here's a group shot of all my guitars, including the El Degas LP that I'm currently flogging in the marketplace (if you've checked out that thread, note that this photo was taken before I did a bunch of mods to the LP).

Thanks for sharing! I like the GL's, never got around to buying one (I also can't justify a bunch of acoustics).

Oh yeah, I should mention - in case you did not know, the GL- models are copies of Guild acoustics.
I don't let my cats in my music room... they have enough toys without me having to share mine

Thanks for the info Charles, I was aware that it's a Guild copy though. I've been lurking this forum for a while, finally decided to join. I've actually become sort of an accidental El Degas collector, not included in that photo is my first guitar, a MIK Degas Strat copy that's in a closet at my parents house. I totally disassembled it years ago and never put it back together, but now that I know what I'm doing more or less with guitar setups I'll resurrect that one at some point when I have some spare time.
And I'd love to have a separate music room that I could keep the cat out of, but I currently live in a small basement suite. Hopefully in six months or so we'll be able to move somewhere with a bit more space.

Back in my basement suite days I had one bass guitar, and a big amp & drum kit that stayed at my buddy's house for jamming. Nowadays it seems I have to keep getting a larger place just to accommodate all the instruments!

It doesn't much cheaper than that!!
Great catch, but I wouldn't get rid of the Seagull.
I work at a local music store 3 days a week as the resident "Tech" and help out on the sales floor too. We're a Godin dealer and I can tell you that these are first quality guitars (solid wood construction and all that.) And of course, Canadian made, eh? We sell a lot of these, as well as the Art & Lutherie models.

I gotta say an Amen there behind Barry. Keep the Seagull, you probably woudn't get much for it anyways and they are solid guitars. If you do sell it, you'll probably end up regretting it. So why bother. Also, if you don't mind sharing, how did you go about getting this gorgeous El Degas for free on Craigslist. Amazing!

Not too much of a story to it, I tend to check Craigslist pretty frequently even when I'm not looking to buy anything and one morning saw an ad titled "El Degas Acoustic" or something like that, and clicked on it out of curiosity. There was one very fuzzy photo and the only description was that it may need a bridge repair (it didn't and doesn't, not sure why she thought that) and that it was free. So I emailed and left my number, assuming that it was already long gone, but lo and behold a few minutes later I got a call. The lady giving it away lived less than ten minutes from me, so I hopped in my car and went straight there. She was a nice older lady who had several guitars and just didn't play it anymore and wanted to pass it on to someone who would get more use out of it. Apparently quite a few people had emailed her, not sure why she picked me but I'm guessing that maybe it was because I actually write proper English in my emails rather than saying things like "hey u still gott guiter ill take it" like so many Craigslisters seem to.
I know that I'll miss the Seagull, but it is the 25th Anniversary model so I should be able to get around $450 for it. I simply don't play it that much and I really want to buy a synth, so I'm selling off some of my gear that I don't use as much. I'm a university student, so I really need to follow a philosophy that for any gear that comes in, something needs to go out, but I've been breaking that rule for a while now and have simply accumulated more guitars than I need. Realistically I don't think I need more than two electrics and one acoustic. Sure, someday when I have more money and space I'd love to have a big collection, but right now that's just not feasible for me.
