Saw this posted locally and thought it was weird. Its one of the later P-Bass model that came with the abalone logo , with Dimarzio pups but this one does not have the mini switch on it ! Mind you the pickguard is a replacement ... Dont know if these are the Dimarzios and to tell the truth, never saw a plain wood version of this model. I saw the bleu, the red and the sunburst, this is my first natural....

Any opinions ?

Tried replacing the pickguard, normal pickguards are not direct replacements on this bass, they dont fit, you need to custom cut them.

Interesting one. You don't see a lot of natural Precision bass EDs out there.

Pickups: I would wonder whether those are Dimarzios, unless you replaced/painted the covers - it seems they were putting the ones with cream covers on back then because those immediately stood out as being "upgraded" pups. I could be wrong.

Lack of mini-switch: I heard rumblings at one time somewhere on my journey of trying to find info on ED's that the addition of Dimarzios & mini-switches may have been an option offered by the music stores selling these instruments (as a pretty easy upsell since people were gaga over the idea of more gain in that era), which I absolutely cannot substantiate one way or the other. I mean, that could explain why pickups and mini toggle installation could vary... but again this is total speculation.

Pickguard: Not surprised about the pickguard having to be custom... a lot of these early "replica" makes from Asia do not match 1:1 with replacement pickguards.

I tried to find pictures of pulled pickguard to see the wiring color to compare but none available.

I know that I have another beat up ED P-Bass in red or even white... I dont remember... I dont know where it is right now. lol

Hoping my other ones pickguard is the same so that I can trace a new one. will need to cut a blanc sheet to make one.

All my Univox basses are direct replacements for pickguards...

Some of them got it right. Some... did not!

Hence why a Burny, Orville, or Univox is more highly sought after than an ED, in my opinion. As much as I love my highly curated stable of ED's, they can be quirky!

Im not knocking them down, I love these ! Especially this model of the P-Bass. Since its late 70s or early 80s, they were smart to make them a little different after the lawsuit talks in 75-76...

Im going thru my pictures and you are absolutely right, all Dimarzio pups are cream cover, even on the strats ! My pups are replacements just like the pickguard and the bridge.

My eyes are not that great but this natural bass does not look like it had a switch or am I not seeing it ?

No switch i the catalog pic.

If the bass you have never had Dimarzios there would be no reason to have a switch (the pickups would not support a coil tap or coil split).
